3 simple ways to soothe your throat, jaw, neck and shoulders
As we continue our throat chakra work as part of the Love Your WHOLE Self chakra journey, you MAY want to explore metaphorical meanings of any throat, neck, shoulder and jaw issues
It’s that time of year again when lots of people are coming down with sore throats. I’ll be sharing more around working with metaphorical meanings with the Full Moon and Super Moon members in the coming week.
Here are three things you can do to help yourself right now
1) Chanting and/or singing – especially great for ADHD brains, when we chant or sing (or talk aloud), as well as naturally elongating the exhalation and calming the nervous system, it focuses our busy brains on the thought we’re chanting or singing or speaking. You might use a mantra or simply remind yourself aloud of a chore you’re doing until you’ve done it (it feels riDONKulous but helps minimise the risk of distraction).
2) Yogic neck and shoulder rolls – co-ordinating your movement with your breath is what creates the unification of body and mind so you might want to inhale as you draw the shoulders up as if wearing them as earrings then exhale as you release or inhale for half a neck roll and exhale for the second half. Notice what your neck and shoulders need and let me know if you have any questions.
3) Relax your jaw – gently move it around and let any tensions, strains and stresses go. I always yawn instantly as I’m so conditioned (from decades of yoga practise) to connect with the jaw as a way of becoming more embodied and noticing and releasing stresses and tensions. Notice how YOU feel and if (as I expect) it feels good, build it into your daily self care practises.
If you found this helpful, please like/comment/share/follow/subscribe etc – thank you so much for reading.
And remember, even if you currently have any issues with your jaw, throat, neck and shoulders, getting curious about them and being open to healing them changes the relationship with the issue / injury. I still can’t put my bras on the normal way as I exacerbated my poor rotator cuff for SO long but the daily yoga and physio and curiosity and compassion is healing it in a way that I’d denied myself the first several months even though all my work is around self and Self care!
